Our Purpose
The Jeremiah Fund was born from real conversations with people ready to rebuild their lives, but facing one critical barrier.
After completing a 12-month recovery program, securing jobs, and preparing for independence, nearly every graduate shared the same reality:
They weren’t afraid of failing, they were afraid of not having a place to live.
The biggest need was clear: affordable housing and short-term rent support.
That’s why the Jeremiah Fund exists, to bridge the gap between recovery and stability, and give people a real chance to move forward.
Our Story
The Jeremiah Fund was created after direct conversations with individuals graduating from recovery programs.
In May 2025, board members attended the San Diego Rescue Mission Spring Academy Graduation, where 48 men and women completed a 12-month faith-based recovery program.
These graduates had:

Completed intensive life rebuilding programs

Prepared themselves for independent living
But when asked about their future, the answers were consistent.
Three Questions Were Asked
Those conversations directly shaped the creation of the Jeremiah Fund.
How the Jeremiah Fund Works
Our program supports individuals after they complete a structured recovery program.
Step 1 — Recovery & Transformation
Participants must complete programs such as the San Diego Rescue Mission Mission Academy, a 12-month faith-based rehabilitation program that provides:
-
Job training and employment support
-
Addiction recovery
-
Three meals per day
-
Housing during the program
-
Life coaching and personal development
Participants must meet strict requirements:
These programs have been operating since 1955 and have proven success in helping individuals rebuild their lives.
Step 2 — Transition to Independent Living
After graduation, individuals must transition into the real world and secure independent housing. Participants must meet strict requirements:
-
Maintain employment
-
Remain clean and sober
-
Complete the full program
-
Pass vetting and interviews
In San Diego, housing costs create an enormous barrier during this stage
Step 3 — Jeremiah Fund Support
The Jeremiah Fund provides up to 12 months of rental assistance to help individuals and families secure housing and stabilize their lives.
Support may include:
-
Rental deposits
-
Monthly rental assistance
-
Case-by-case financial support
-
Transition support for the first year of independence
The philosophy behind the program is simple:
“A hand up, not a handout.”
The Jeremiah Fund helps individuals who have already demonstrated their commitment to change.

Who the Jeremiah Fund Serves

Funding - How You Can Help
The Jeremiah Fund is built on a hybrid funding model designed for both immediate impact and long-term sustainability.
Individual donations and grant funding provide the resources needed to support people right now, helping cover rent and ease the transition into stable housing. At the same time, a portion of funds are strategically invested to generate ongoing returns, creating a self-sustaining cycle of support.

This approach allows the Jeremiah Fund to grow its impact over time—helping not just today’s individuals, but many more in the future.
